About The Artist:Bio: I was born and raised in New York City and from my earliest days, art was my thing. When I was a child, I drew portraits of anyone who was willing to pose for me, from friends and family to our Siamese cat Duffy. I started my formal studies at the Art Student‚s League in New York City at the age of nine, and worked mainly with charcoal and pastels for many years while I was in grade school and high school. I continued my art studies throughout my college years at the University of Michigan. After graduating, with a degree in Film/Video studies, I moved back to New York City and began a nine-year career in television - producing for "Good Morning America" and "ABC-News 20/20". This was a very busy and exciting time, which had its artistic challenges, as well. |

When my husband and I moved to Connecticut to start our family, I left TV for a
quieter life style — more suited to motherhood. While living in Connecticut,
I returned part-time to my art pursuits and studied painting for many years at The
Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan. I studied various mediums and ended up
loving to paint in both oils and acrylics. I now live with my husband and 3 sons
in Newton, Massachusetts. When my youngest son started full-day school several years
ago, I set up a home-studio and started painting professionally.
Artistic Statement: I enjoy painting a wide range of subject matter. Food, flowers, people, leaves, & dogs are of particular interest to me these days. Nature in a man-made world is another of my recent themes. I gravitate toward vivid color, bold lines and strong forms.
I paint in either oil or acrylic and more recently have used Encaustic waxes and
collage in some of my work. I start my paintings with a strongly colored canvas,
which gives me dramatic contrast and inspiration as I paint my first rough layers
– loosely – with a fat brush and a color that stands out against the
canvas color. This creates a lot of excitement on the canvas right from the start,
which sometimes inspires me to head in a particular direction with color. I allow
myself a lot of freedom in the early stages of a painting, building the painting
in layers, using more precise line and form only when necessary, careful to preserve
some of the energy and spontaneity of the earlier stages. Exhibitions:
